An Horse Share New Single “Get Out Somehow”
Though they managed to get out somehow, Australian duo An Horse are looking to make their way back in. The indie rock group are returning to center stage following a seven year hiatus. Their first single back, “Get Out Somehow”, sees them coming back stronger and more hopeful than ever as they attempt to make sense of the feelings that drove them to taking a break. As their first release since 2011’s album Walls, the song is riddled with passion and conflict; exuding such genuine emotion that, as a listener, truly makes you feel the song. Thanks to guitarist Damon Cox’s tenacity, paired with vocalist Kate Cooper’s powerful lyrics and voice, they are able to fully recapture the magic that made their first two albums so well received. A return to form, this song will make you think An Horse never took a break to begin with.
The song is a hopeful ode to self-care. The core message of the song is to put yourself first, with lead singer Cooper reminding the audience that “you got to do what you got to do to get out somehow.” The verses of the song include Cooper remembering the hardships in her life, like a time when “everywhere I looked I just saw white”, and other moments when her spirits were low, but she managed to turn things around and move forward. A conversation about overcoming personal sorrow and tragedy, this song is about how hope prevails in someway or another.
The exuberant track hits home for the duo, as their hiatus was their own way of escape. After back to back tours, and Cooper’s own personal tragedy with her father falling ill, the group needed to take a moment for themselves. “We realized after we had some time alone to breathe,” explains Damon, “that we needed to once again listen to ourselves and just have fun with the music.” Seven years later they are right back where they left off, having fun with music again and reaffirming hope from past pain.
Since taking a lengthy break from all things music, the group are now back on tour and bringing the vigor to you. Currently the duo have embarked on a North American tour, playing select dates and sharing the stage with The Front Bottoms and Camp Cope. Just as their single says, they had to do what they had to do in order to get back to what they love.
If “Get Out Somehow” proves anything, it’s that An Horse is back, and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
