Kiah Victoria has all the style, vocals, and personality to propel her into success and mainstream recognition – she currently has 30K followers on Facebook and a previous EP, Everybody, released in 2016.

At first listen, “Ornament,” the newest single from the rising vocalist, leads the audience into an electronic beat, a dynamic yet soothing rhythm throughout the song. The inflection and force of the beat fuels the lyrics, which focuses on a one-sided, toxic relationship that can leave us feeling void and unnoticed.

“Twist it, break it, drop it pick me up again. Burning me, burning me like the muffin man. Lift it, fix it, hang it like an ornament. Like an ornament, I ain't no ornament” hangs in the air over a resounding piano. Although the lyrics portray anger, sadness, and regret, the beats give off the feeling of empowerment and strength, almost like a booming declaration. The video shows Kiah in multiple outfits and scenes while running through choreography, adding depth to the frames and giving the audience more time to take in the lyrics of the song.

Aside from “Ornament,” Kiah Victoria puts more political thought into her music. Songs like “Betsy Ross” and “Hollow” focus on Black Lives Matter and the terrorist attack in Paris. Kiah Victoria is definitely one artist to look out for this year.
