London-based indie rockers Anteros are back with a captivating video for their new single “Drive On.” This is the fourth single from their upcoming debut album When We Land, with previous tracks including “Call Your Mother,” “Ordinary Girl,” and “Full Moon.”

Formed in 2014, Anteros was founded by frontwoman Laura Hayden, with bassist Joshua Rumble, guitarist Charles Monneraud, and drummer Harry Balaz filling out the four-piece. With their ingenious meshing of 1970’s New wave and 1990’s Britpop, it’s easy to hear the influences of icons such as Blondie, The Pretenders, and Blur in Anteros’ signature “bitter dream pop” sound.

The video for “Drive On” focuses on the pressing issue of plastic waste in the world, starting strong by stating facts: there are 150 million metric tons of plastic circulating around our oceans, with that number increasing by 8 million metric tons a year. Co-directed by Vasilisa Forbes and Hayden— with choreography by Simon Donnellon, who has also worked with artists such as Years & Years and Sigrid— the video looks to shed light on the issue of plastic usage and waste in today’s era of mass consumption and conventionality. Committed to the cause, none of the plastics used in the making of the music video were purchased.

Hayden credits the inspiration behind “Drive On” to reading about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a floating island of trash estimated to be twice the size of Texas. Through the band’s sonical prowess, they are able to showcase such a hard-hitting subject with a dizzying array of guitar riffs and drums beats, with Hayden’s infectious vocals carrying the main message, “We carry on through a wasteland, We drive on, drive on. We leave it all by the wayside, We drive on, drive on.”

Not only is the band looking to highlight the effects of plastic waste through music, they are also teaming up with James Jagger’s Project Zero— one of the leading ocean conservation projects— to make their products and live shows as environmentally friendly as possible.

When We Land is set to release on March 22nd via Distiller Records and they will kick off their largest UK headline tour to date.
