If their first single is any indication, Blue Heaven is surely growing into a band to watch out for.

With their debut album fast approaching, indie-rock band Blue Heaven are looking to catch your eye with their recent single, “Growing”. The album, entitled Volume One, is a big step for the Maryland based band. With a release set for June 15th through No Sleep Records, this twelve track album is the first full length effort for this four piece, though it certainly won’t be their last.

The debut single, “Growing”, sets the stage for what’s to come in Volume One. A layered conversation about heartache and doubt, the song is a persistent track that never lets you settle. Led by Levi Miller’s swelling vocals, his strong, almost raspy, nature pairs well with the instrumentals of the track. While Miller’s role may be to convey the anxieties of the song’s deeper meaning, there is a tangible energy that seeps far beyond to keep the song reaching. With a collection of light, animated guitars and a firm drum keeping everything together, the song strays from the moodiness of indie stereotypes to create a song that expresses sadness without the force of melancholy.

“For me, the song is about realizing you and your significant other have lost your shine,” explains Miller. “It aims to capture that moment when you realize things are only going to get worse from there.”

Developing these central conflicts throughout the song, the finite feelings don’t hold it back. Instead, the song aims to find strength in the idea of walking away.  “The only resolution, or the only way to grow as people, is to end.”

While their debut single may be focused on some of the darker revelations of relationships, the album itself aims to delve much deeper. Miller continues, “The subject matter of the album is themed around honesty and growth. Precious and temporary moments that play over and over. The vision behind the music of the album was the product of the four of us taking a breath of fresh air.”

That fresh air came from taking a step back and looking at what their group could be. Despite their rock background, the group saw the potential for Volume One to be a collection people hadn’t heard before, and they ran with it. “In many ways I think the fact that we had been conditioned with so much aggressive, obscure music led us to make choices with the songs that traditional indie rock bands wouldn’t have gone for.”

With one single down and another track titled “Shade,” Blue Heaven is shaping up for what aims to be a dynamic release with Volume One. Promising an album different from what we’re used to, Volume One aims to bring together rock and indie styles to create an unrestrained, powerful vibe. Available on June 15th, Volume One is sure to be an album you won’t want to miss.
