Bad Bad Hats' “Write It On Your Heart” off Upcoming Album

Their hats may be bad, but their songs are so good.

Facing the feared sophomore slump, Minneapolis based band Bad Bad Hats come out of the gate swinging with the announcement of their new album, Lightning Round. With the release set for August 3rd, the trio are following up 2015’s debut, Psychic Reader, with another 10-track album that seeks to dig deeper than ever before. With an innocent, yet innovative sound, the group are proof that you don’t have to be the loudest to make riveting noise.

Lead single “Write It On Your Heart” is a gentle dive into self-exploration by frontwoman Kerry Alexander. Writing about the sensation of being left for another and being asked for your blessing, Alexander attempts to convey a depth of feeling that in the moment may be hard to reach. “I haven't always stood up for myself in situations like this,” shares Alexander. “So this song is an ode to the version of me that does.” Following that emotional lead, the song dances a fine line of being bold and gentle all at once. The strength of Alexander’s voice blends nicely with the measured instrumentation added by guitarist and bassist Chris Hoge and drummer Connor Davison. Working in harmony with one another, no single element overpowers another. Instead, they all come together to create a demure vibe that manages to bring the grit to their overall indie sound.

Having toured with the likes of The Front Bottoms and Third Eye Blind, the group are now out on the road once again as they get ready for the release of Lightning Round. Taking the summer by storm, Bad Bad Hats are traveling across the country, playing a few dates with Cumulus along the way. Bringing their lucid sound to a city near you, Bad Bad Hats are hoping that the strength of their music will bring out the strength in you.
