Black Belt Eagle Scout Announces New Album, At the Party With My Brown Friends
Following in the wake of the remarkably stirring precursor Mother of My Children, Black Belt Eagle Scout has announced their sophomore album At the Party With My Brown Friends to arrive August 30th. In similar fashion to their debut album, which resides upon Pitchfork’s “Best Rock Albums of 2018” and NPR Music’s “Favorite New Musicians of 2018,” the new release is comprised of somber realizations delivered in smooth guitar licks and tumultuous drums. Even more significantly, there remains a sense of intimacy in the rawness of Black Belt Eagle Scout’s word and sound.
The group, spearheaded by multi-instrumentalist Katherine Paul, shares self-reflection measured in lonely pauses, rambunctious movements, and a reverence for what it means to find companionship in the solitude of discrimination. Paul cites the inspiration for the titular track, sharing, “We are all at the party (the world), trying to navigate ourselves within a good or bad situation. I happen to be at the party with my brown friends-Indigenous, Black, POC who always have my back while we walk throughout this event called life.”
Black Belt Eagle Scout has also announced an extensive tour of North America following this new release, starting with a smattering of music festivals, such as the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island and Pickathon in their hometown of Portland, Oregon. The fall 2019 tour will support musician Devendra Banhart, the dates for which can be found below.
At the Party With My Brown Friends is available for pre-order now on all formats: CD, cassette, digital, LP. Additionally, there is a limited edition of 200 Saddle Creek Exclusive LP on striped vinyl and 500 Indie/Tour LP on maroon vinyl.
